No Surprises Act
Last updated: May 2026
Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
The No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022) protects patients from unexpected medical bills. Under this federal law, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your audiology care will cost before you receive services at our Burbank office.
What Is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the law, healthcare providers must give patients who don't have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. At Sound Advice, this includes related costs such as hearing evaluations, hearing aid devices, fitting and programming appointments, and follow-up visits.
- You can ask Sound Advice for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you schedule an item or service at least three business days in advance, we will provide a Good Faith Estimate in writing within one business day. If you ask for one, we will also provide it in writing.
- Be sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
What Happens If My Bill Is Higher Than Expected?
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
